About Khopra Danda Trek

Khopra Danda Trek, also known as Khopra Hill and Khopra Ridge, is one of the best treks in the Annapurna Region, covering three different viewpoints. These three hill stations, Khopra Danda, Mulde Viewpoint, and Poon Hill, offer pristine views of the high snow-capped mountains of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas with unblocked sunrise. It is a family-friendly mountain trip in Nepal. It is also the best trip for elderlies, beginners, and those traveling to Nepal for a limited time.

There are numerous short and long trekking trails in the Annapurna Region. Annapurna Circuit is the most extended and adventurous lodge trip in the Annapurna Himalayas. Still, Khopra Danda is a short mountain walking trip that takes about a week from Pokhara to Pokhara. It will be cold at this altitude, so you must pack warm clothing and light and quick-dried quality trekking gear for this trip. A small glacial lake named Khayar is at the bottom of the mountains near Khopra Danda. It takes around three hours to reach the lake and another two hours to return to the lodge, so you must spend two nights in Khopra Danda if you love hiking to Khaer Lake.

After breakfast today, you drive in a private vehicle from Pokhara to Syauli Bazaar. It takes around two hours to reach Syauli Bazaar. You will drive through the hillside roads while enjoying magnificent views of tall white mountains, green hills, captivating landscapes, traditional villages, farmland, rice fields, and more. After leaving the car, you walk on an ascending trail towards Ghandruk Village through Kimche and other typical villages. After walking on the ascending trail for around four hours, you reach Ghandruk, the most extensive Gurung Village in the region, and stay overnight.

It is the longest day of the Khopra Trek. You start walking on a gradually ascending trail through the Village in the morning after breakfast today. After crossing the Village, you enter the forest and walk on the ascending progressively trail to Tadapani. You have a climbing trail through the rhododendron forest to Dobato and cross some small settlements with a few guesthouses along the way to Dobato after Tadapani. Overnight in Dobato.

You hike early in the morning to Mulde Viewpoint from the lodge for the sunrise. It is about a half an hour's climb to Mulde Hill. After enjoying unblocked sunrise and panoramic mountain views, you return to the lodge, have breakfast, and then walk to Dhankharka/Chistibung via Bayali. It is a short walking day, but it will be a late lunch. Bayali Kharka is close; after you cross Bayali, there is no restaurant to stop for lunch. Once you reach Chistibung, have lunch and stay overnight here.

It is a short day of the Khopra Trekking. You start walking on the ascending trail in Chistibung in the morning after breakfast to go to the Khopra Danda. After walking for an hour and a half, you reach above the tree line, from where you can see an open view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massif with lots of green hills, typical villages, valleys, and captivating landscapes. You reach Khopra Danda for lunch today and stay overnight enjoying the stunning mountain views nearby.

After enjoying the morning views from Khopra Danda, you have breakfast in the guesthouse and then start walking towards Swanta on the descending trail. You pass Dhankharka and walk another hour lower, where you meet one restaurant and stop for lunch. After lunch, you again descend to a stream and micro-hydro station. Here, you see a beautiful waterfall before crossing the stream. You walk another hour to Swanta from this stream and stay overnight, overlooking a magnificent view of the Dhaulagiri Himalayas.

After breakfast in Swanta, you walk on a descending trail for around 15 minutes and cross a suspension bridge. Right after the bridge, you start ascending for another hour to Chitre. After Chitre, you enter the rhododendron forest and walk on an ascending trail for the final two to two hours and a half to Ghorepani. Overnight in Ghorepani.

You hike to Poon Hill early morning for the sunrise. It takes around one hour to reach the top of Poon Hill Viewpoint from the lodge, so you need a flashlight to walk to Poon Hill. You will see pristine views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas and an unblocked sunrise from the top. After beneficial views, you return to the lodge for breakfast and trek to Birethanti through Banthanti, Ulleri, Tikhedhunga, and Hile villages. It is about a 7-hour walking journey on the descending trail to Birethanti, where a car will be waiting for you to take you back to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.

Useful Info

Accommodation, Food, and Drink in Khopra Dadanda Route

There are plenty of guesthouses in each camp with enough accommodation on the Khopra Danda route. You will have a private room in the lodge in every camp, but the accommodation won't have an attached bathroom. Although, the toilets are inside the same building where you sleep. There are hot showers in the guesthouses, but they charge a certain amount for the hot water.

You will have a food menu everywhere with different varieties, so you do not have to stay with the local foods during the trek. You can choose any food course from the menu for your main course. However, the Nepalese dish (Dal Bhat) is the best to try and is a complete meal. You can get as much as you can finish at the exact cost.

The guesthouses and restaurants sell bottled water so that you can buy water everywhere. But, it costs more than the city. You can also drink regular tap water by filling it in your bottle. Remember to use purification tablets or sterilizers before drinking it.

Internet and Battery Charging while Trekking in Khopra Danda Route

You can charge your camera battery and other electric gadgets in the lodges in each place where you stay. Also, there are WiFi services in the guesthouses. Still, the lodges charge for using the internet, and battery charges in some places. You can also use the internet with data from the Nepalese SIM Card and call, which you can buy at the international airport, Kathmandu, or Pokhara before you go to the Khopra Danda trail.

Each Day, Walking Hours in Khopra Trek

You walk 6-7 hours daily on the Khopra Trek. There are lots of uphill and downhill trails that are still manageable. The trip's second, third, and last day is longer than the other walking days on the Khopra Danda walking package.

Safety is Essential

You will walk on the ridge with narrow surfaces like the third, fourth, and fifth days. The trail will be slippery if there is snow, so be careful while walking there. You may see some Yak Shad in some places or walk close to the trail. Do not try to go close to them, especially if the baby yak is close to the mother yak. Also, please be careful if the yak and other animals move upwards from the walking trail. Don't stand straight below the animals to take their photos. The stones may fall from their movement.
