Champadevi Hill is in the southern direction of the city center, which is one of the popular one-day hiking destinations around Kathmandu Valley. 2,285m elevated this hill is located about 20km away from the tourist hub Thamel. Champadevi Day Hike is one of the best long-day walks near Kathmandu Valley, which starts from Pharping.

Champadevi Hike has several starting points, such as Pharping, Hattiban Resort, and Machchhe Gaun. If you would like a short trip, you can start from the Hattiban and end at the same place. For a long day trip, you can walk from Pharping and go to Machchhe Gaun or Kritipur at last.

There will be a festival every year on a full-moon day in May. You can see the Hindu shrines, Buddhist monuments, and prayer flags on the top of Champadevi Hill. The Champadevi trail gets very busy on Saturday every week on the Nepalese weekend.

Routes of Champadevi Hiking

Starting a hike from Pharping and ending at either Machcche Gaun or Kritipur is the long day trip to Chapadevi Hill. You can also do it the opposite way. If you are on tour with kids and looking for a short Route to the Champadevi, you can begin walking from Hattiban, visit the top of the hill, then trek back to the Same place and drive.

About an hour's drive from the City center takes you Pharping, the Champadevi Hike begins through a pine forest. You trek for 45 minutes on a steeply ascending trail to Hattiban Resort. From the Hattiban resort, you have a gradual uphill path for another 45 minutes. Outstanding views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Gaurishankar ranges and an attractive glimpse of the Kathmandu valley add more value to the Champadevi day hike on this part.

You enter a dense forest of needlewood, brown oak, pine, and mulberry trees. You walk around 2 hours more on this foresty part to reach the top of Champadevi Hill. Trees surround the shrines and flags, so you can not see them from a far distance. You can hike through the forest and ridge of the hill to Machchhe Gaun for another 2 hours and drive to the city. Or, walk back about 45 minutes, and take the left trail to Kritipur. You can see the farming lifestyle on this route.

You might see wild animals like leopards, barking deer, martins, and others on this hiking trail to Champadevi Hill. The sounds of the birds were melodious from the forest.
