About Shivapuri Day Hike

The Shivapuri Day Hike is the longest day hike around the Kathmandu valley. The hiking trail lies in the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The Shivapuri Hike is a perfect way of having a different experience of nature and being free from the busy schedule in the town.

The Shivapuri Peak Hike begins from Budanilakantha, about a 12 km drive north of the central city area- Thamel. You start to hike by getting an entry permit from the National Park checkpoint. A monastery is on the way, and the solo hiking begins after passing it. The hiking trail is nicely made inside the forest. The rhododendron, pine, and oak forest dot the forest. Only in one-two places are there slightly open meadows. You feel the natural wilderness there. The monkeys look at you from the tree. After walking for about 3 hours, you reach the Bagdwar, the source of the Bagmati River. Some hermits have settled down on the open meadow. After another half an hour of walks up and up, you reach the top of the Shivapuri peak (2730 meters). Sometimes, we can see snow there. It is a piece of paradise. The Himalayan views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal can be explored. Descending about a couple of hours, you conclude the hike at Budanilakatha and drive to your hotel.

Frolic Adventure manages all the required things for your Shivapuri Hiking. You can feel the absolute wonder of walking on the valley's ridge. For more details, please feel free to contact us.

We drive to Narayanthan after breakfast at our hotel in the morning. We go about half an hour to this place, taking the entrance ticket at the army checkpoint, hiking through a big Ani Gompa, seeing the Kathmandu valley view, and entering the forest with the stone steps. After our hike for about an hour, we reach Baghdwar. Baghdwar is the starting point of the Bagmati river. We see Tibetan Buddhist flags here and again keep continue our hike through the forest towards the top. We see the great view of the mountain range from here and a small cottage of the Sadhu. Then we hiked to where we started our hike and drove back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
