The Shivapuri Day Hike is the longest day hike around the Kathmandu valley. The hiking trail lies in the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The Shivapuri Hike is a perfect way of having a different experience of nature and being free from the busy schedule in the town.
The Shivapuri Peak Hike begins from Budanilakantha, about a 12 km drive north of the central city area- Thamel. You start to hike by getting an entry permit from the National Park checkpoint. A monastery is on the way, and the solo hiking begins after passing it. The hiking trail is nicely made inside the forest. The rhododendron, pine, and oak forest dot the forest. Only in one-two places are there slightly open meadows. You feel the natural wilderness there. The monkeys look at you from the tree. After walking for about 3 hours, you reach the Bagdwar, the source of the Bagmati River. Some hermits have settled down on the open meadow. After another half an hour of walks up and up, you reach the top of the Shivapuri peak (2730 meters). Sometimes, we can see snow there. It is a piece of paradise. The Himalayan views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal can be explored. Descending about a couple of hours, you conclude the hike at Budanilakatha and drive to your hotel.
