Tamang Heritage Trek is a cultural Trek in the Langtang Himalaya that offers insights into the lifestyle, culture, and rural activities of the Tamang people of the mountain region. This new trekking route is less popular than the other commercial regions, but it is a beautiful, moderate-level Trek in Nepal. Not just the locals' culture, religion, and tenor, but also the attractive hills, forests, rivers, valleys, water, mountains, and other natural resources make the trek an extreme experience for visitors.
The Tamang Heritage Trail is about 140km north of Kathmandu and follows a hillside road to Syabrubesi. The Langtang Valley Trek begins from the same place to the right of Syabrubesi, but the Tamang Heritage Trail goes to the left.
The trek to theTamang Heritage Trail starts with a steep 3-hour climb from Syabrubesi to Goljung Bhanjyang, then continues on a flat stretch along a rough road to Gatlang on the first day. Gatlang is a big Tamang village with hundreds of traditional buildings. You can see wooden plank roofs on those buildings, which can be an extra memory from this Trek.
The Tamang heritage journey continues to Tatopani after Gatlang village. Tatopani used to have a natural hot spring, but it is no longer there after a big earthquake on 25 April 2015. From this area, you can see Ganesh Himal and Siringi Himal. Chilime Valley and farming terraces look fabulous on a day when you walk from Gatlang to Tatopani.
Nagthali is a hill station that offers stunning mountain views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and the Tibetan massif. It is not just the Himalayas; beautiful valleys, the village of Thuman, green hills, and other attractions look outstanding from Nagthali. A couple of hours' walk to the north from Nagthali, you reach one viewpoint, from where you can see Tibetan villages and long-range mountains.
You can end the Trek to Syabrubesi by walking from Nagthali in a day, hiking a few more days through Bridim, or combining it with a trek to the Langtang Valley.
