How High is Mount Everest?

For many years, Mount Everest kept its altitude of 8,848m above sea level. This height was measured by the Indian survey team back in 1954 with the Theodolites survey method because there was no GPS. Except for China, every country in the world accepted this elevation. A few years ago, a joint team between Nepal and China released its new height of 8848.86m; China also accepted this elevation.

Another measurement by the National Geographic Society, USA, declared its height as 29,032 feet (8849 m) above sea level.

How was Mount Everest Named?

The mountain was not Named because of the first climber. The British surveyor Sir George Everest named it This mountain was known as Peak XV because it was measured in the fifteenth. Nepal has a different name for Mount Everest, which is known as Sagarmatha ("the head in the great blue sky" and 'head of the earth'). The Tibetan people call it 'Chomolungma' ("the goddess mother of the earth" or 'goddess of the valley').

When is the best time to visit Mount Everest?

There are travelers all around the year to the Mount Everest Region, but from mid-September until November in the autumn and from April to May are the best times to visit. However, if you plan to climb this mountain, April and May are the best months.

December offers the most crystal-clear weather conditions, but it will be freezing. Suppose you would like to visit Mount Everest with fewer trekkers. In that case, you can travel this month, but remember to pack super-warm trekking equipment.
