The old trekking itinerary of the Manaslu Circuit would start from Arughat Bazaar and end at Besisahar when there was no road construction on the Annapurna and Manaslu trails. The total walking distance of the Manaslu Circuit Trekking (MCT) used to be 201.1km (9124.9 miles) starting from Arughat and ending in Besisahar.

Now, trekkers start the Manaslu Circuit Trekking from Sotikhola or Machhakhola and end at Dharapani or Ngadi, so the walking distances of MCT differ according to the starting and ending points. You will walk 10-12 days from Sotikhola to Dharapani or Ngadi to complete 142.4km (88.5 miles) or 172.4km (107 miles) walking length of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. You drive 131km (205.5 miles) from Kathmandu to Sotikhola in a public bus or private jeep to start the trip to complete the whole Manaslu Tour.

Manaslu Circuit Walking Distance in Kilometers and Miles

  • Sotikhola to Ngadi: 172.4 Kilometers (88.5 Miles) – 13 Walking Days
  • Sotikhola to Dharapani: 142.4 Kelometers ( 107 Miles) – 11 Walking Days
  • Machhakhola to Ngadi: 158.4 Kilometers (98.5 Miles) – 12 Walking Days
  • Machhakhola to Dharapani: 128.4 Kilometers (80 Miles) – 10 Walking Days

Note: The distances mentioned above are in total days of walking from one camp to the next and have not included the side walking distances during the altitude practice rest days.

Trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Trail

You will walk different distances every day while trekking to the Manaslu Circuit. The daily walking length depends on the altitude, so you will hike longer camps in lower elevations than you reach in higher areas. Check how long you will be walking each day during the trip below:

Day 01: Sotikhola to Machha Khola

  • Walking Distance: 14km (8.6 miles)
  • Walking Time: 7 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 120m (393.7 feet)

It is the first day of walking on the Manaslu Circuit, Trekking at a low altitude. The trail gradually ascends and descends mostly flatly. While walking here, you will walk in sub-tropical temperatures to feel hot on a sunny day. You will complete fourteen kilometers in around seven hours, gaining 120 meters of elevation today.

Day 02: Machhakhola to Jagat

  • Walking Distance: 17km (10.5 miles)
  • Walking Time: 7-8 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 490m (1607 feet)

The second day of the Around Manaslu Tour is a few kilometers longer than the first day. You will complete 10.5 miles today by walking around seven to eight hours and gain four hundred and ninety meters. The trail is not very much ascending, but the temperature will be hot again.

Day 03: Jagat to Deng

  • Walking Distance: 19.2km (11.9 miles)
  • Walking Time: 8 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 520m (1706 feet)

Walking on the Manaslu Circuit Trekking is another long day, but the trail is pretty steep. Before reaching Philim and Nyak Phedi, you will briefly climb while crossing Jagat to Deng. You will hike 19.2 kilometers in 8 hours and gain 520 meters today.

Day 04: Deng to Namrung

  • Walking Distance: 19.5km (12.1 Miles)
  • Walking Time: 8 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 770m (2526 feet)

The fourth day was also a lengthy walk from Deng to Namrung. Today, you ascend towards Bhi Phedi and hike on the flat. After crossing a suspension bridge before Ghap, you will walk on the ascending trail through the forest and reach Namrung. Today, you travel 19.5 kilometers in eight hours and gain 770 meters of elevation.

Day 05: Namrung to Samagaun

  • Walking Distance: 17.4km (10.8 miles)
  • Walking Time: 7 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 890m (2919 feet)

The fifth day of the Manaslu Larke trip starts with an ascending trail towards Lho. You can see the magnificent view of Mount Manaslu from Lho Village, descend to the stream for a few minutes, and gradually ascend through the pine forest to Syala. After Syala, you cross a bridge and walk on the flat part rest until Samagaun. You will be above the tree line from today and feel altitudes. Today, you hike around seven hours to cross 17.4 meters and gain 890 meters.

Day 06: Acclimatization in Samagaun

  • Walking Distance: 2.9km (1.80 miles) to Birendra Lake
  • Walking Time: 2-3 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 171m (561 feet)

You have different options for the altitude practice from Samagaun during the exploration day. You can either visit Birendra Lake towards the Manaslu Base Camp or Pungen Gumba. Seeing Pungen Gumba is a long day and goes to a higher elevation compared to the lake. If you explore Birendra Lake, you will hike 2-3 hours both ways and gain just one hundred and seventy-one meters.

Day 07: Samagaun to Samdo

  • Walking Distance: 8.2km (5 miles)
  • Walking Time: 3-4 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 340m (1115.4 feet)

While doing a complete circuit of the Manaslu, you hike to Samdo from Samagaun on the seventh day. It is not a lengthy day, so you walk around 3-4 hours to complete 8.2 km and gain 340 meters of elevation. You see magnificent views of Mount Manaslu, Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli, Naike Peak, and more while walking towards Samdo Village today. You can also have a chance to encounter a blue sheep and a marmot along the way today.

Day 08: Samdo to Dharmasala

  • Walking Distance: 6.1km (3.7 miles)
  • Walking Time: 3-4 hrs
  • Elevation Gain: 600m (1968.5 feet)

Today is the eighth day of the Manaslu Trip to Dharmashala (Larke Phedi). After walking around half an hour from Samdo, you meet a trail to Tibet to the right, which you won't follow, and take a left. You will have to ascend the trail mostly today to cross 6.1 kilometers. It takes around 3-4 hours to reach Larke Phedi from Samdo and gain a total elevation of 600 meters.

Day 09: Darmashala to Bhimtang via Larke Pass

  • Walking Distance: 15.7km (9.7 miles)
  • Walking Time: 7-8 hrs
  • Elevation Gain:700m (2296 feet)
  • Altitude Drops: 1440m (4724.4 feet)

Dharmashala to Bhimtang via Larke Pass is the most significant trip day because of altitude and temperature. It would be best if you started early in the morning to review the pass this morning. You will ascend seven hundred meters first, walking 3-4 hrs to cross 7.1 kilometers and a long descent to Bhimtang by losing 1440 meters of altitude. It takes around 7-8 hours from Larke Phedi to Bhimtang today.

Day 10: Bhimtang to Dharapani

  • Walking Distance: 25km (15.5 miles)
  • Walking Time: 7-8 hrs
  • Elevation Drops: 1820m (5971 feet)

It is the longest walking day of the Manaslu Circuit Trekking, completing 172.4 kilometers. Still, the trail descends to Dharapani from Bhimtang today. You will be on the Annapurna Circuit Trekking route once you arrive in Dharapani, passing Surki, Goa, and Tilje Villages. Today, you hike 25km in 7-8 hours and drop 1820m elevation.

Day 11: Dharapani to Jagat

  • Walking Distance: 16km (9.9 miles)
  • Walking Time: 6-7 hrs
  • Elevation Drops: 600m (1968.5 feet)

Today, you walk on the road most of the time but will also cross the motorway somewhere. You will pass Tal and Chyamje Villages while walking towards Jagat, descending 600 meters in 6-7 hours and completing 16 kilometers.

Day 12: Jagat to Ngadi

  • Walking Distance: 14km (8.6 miles)
  • Walking Time: 6 hrs
  • Elevation Drops: 470m (1541 feet)

Again, you walk on the road today to Ngadi from Jagat through Shreechaur and Syange. You will be walking at a lower elevation here, so the temperature will be hot and make you sweet. You complete 14 kilometers today by hiking for around 6 hours and descending 470 meters.

You drive on the first day from Kathmandu, walk 172.4km from Sotikhola to Ngadi in 12 days, and then return to Kathmandu on the 13th.
