The Journey of 10 Day Annapurna Base Camp Trip

We begin our 10-Day Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary with a scenic tour of Kathmandu and exploring the UNESCO world heritage sites spread around the valley. Departing to the city of Pokhara next, we make our way over to the trailhead of Nayapul, officially beginning our journey. The First Day of the trail sees us cross Birethanti to Tikhedhunga, where we spend the night. Past Tikhedhunga, the trail quickly ascends to Ghorepani and onto Poon Hill for a stunning Himalayan sunrise. Dropping down, we go to Tadapani and Chhomrong, one of the region's most significant agricultural hamlets.

Ascending towards Dovan, we make our way to the upper Modi Valley, continuing the journey towards Deurali. The next stretch of the journey takes us through the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700 m) to reach the Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m). For our descending journey, we retrace our steps back to Dovan and Deurali before heading towards the hamlet of Bamboo. Trekking onto Jhinu Danda next, we treat our tired bodies to a relaxing hot water bath before setting off on a final descent toward Nayapul. The journey ends with a lovely drive back to Pokhara, after which we head back to Kathmandu.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek 10 Days Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Drive to Nayapul (1070 m.) - 1 hr. drive. Trek to Tikhedhunga. (1540 m.) 3 hrs.

  • Altitude: 1070 m (Nayapul) and 1540 m (Tikhedhunga)
  • Trekking Hours: 3 hrs.
  • Highlights: Scenic drive to the trailhead at Nayapul, Lush green forests adorned with pine, fir, and rhododendron trees

We begin our adventure with a scenic drive heading toward Nayapul. For over an hour, the bumpy roads guide us through the stunning natural landscapes and vibrant hamlets, reaching Modi Khola, beyond which lies the trailhead of Nayapul. Following the lush green forests due west, we begin our ascending route for Birethanti. Past Birethanti, the trail ascends, following the lush green forests to Tikhedhunga for the night.

Day 02: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,880 m.) 7 hrs.

  • Altitude: Ghorepani (2,880 m)
  • Trekking hours: 7 hours
  • Highlights: Climb the famed Ulleri Uphill, First glimpse of the Himalayas in the Annapurna range
  • Accommodation: Teahouse
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

On one of the longer days of the Trek, we will begin our journey early, headed for Ghorepani. Continuing where we left off, the trail again begins its ascending run towards the hamlet of Ulleri. The steep ascending staircase leading to Ulleri is famed for being difficult and will take a long time to conquer. Taking a well-deserved rest at Ulleri, we continue our journey toward Ghorepani for the night. Ghorepani is one of the most prominent Gurung settlements and offers excellent views of the Himalayas in the Annapurna range.

Day 03: Hike up to Poon Hill (3210 m.) and trek to Tadapani (2610 m.) 5 hrs.

  • Altitude: 3210 m (Poon Hill) and 2610 m (Tadapani)
  • Trekking hours: 5 hours
  • Highlights: Scenic Himalayan sunrise
  • Accommodation: Teahouse
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

The Day begins with an early morning hike to the hill summit of Poon Hill for a scenic Himalayan sunrise. Across the horizon are the majestic summits of Annapurna South (7,219 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m), Annapurna III (7,555 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), and Machhapuchhre (6,997 m) forming a mesmerizing Himalayan panorama for us to savor. Enjoying the Himalayan sunrise, we drop down to Ghorepani for a lovely breakfast before setting off toward the hamlet of Tadapani. The journey is pleasant and passes through the Banthanti route. Tadapani is yet another stop on the Trek and is a significant settlement of the Gurung ethnic communities.

Day 04: Trek from Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170 m.) 5 hrs.

  • Altitude: 2170 m (Tadapani)
  • Trekking hours: 5 hours
  • Highlights: Explore quaint Gurung villages, surreal bio-diversity on the trail, views of the Annapurna Conservation Area

Exiting the hamlet of Tadapani, we make our way north, dropping down to the hamlet of Chuile. Following the lush green forests, the trail takes us beyond the Kimrong Khola atop a suspension bridge to reach the vibrant Gurung settlement of Talung. The journey's final stretch is ascending as we climb through quaint settlements leading up to the hamlet of Chhomrong for the night.

Day 05: Trek from Chhomrong to Dovan (2600 m.) 6 hrs.

  • Trekking hours: 6 hours

Enjoying the scenic Himalayan view from Chhomrong, we begin our ascending journey toward the hamlet of Dovan. Located on the upper ends of the Modi Khola Valley, the quaint hamlet offers stunning views of the Annapurna Range. Past Chhomrong, the trail climbs towards Sinuwa before heading towards the quaint settlement of Bamboo. The journey's final stretch takes us past the river and to Dovan for the night.

Day 06: Trek from Dovan to Deurali (3200 m.) 4 hrs.

  • Altitude: (3200 m) Deurali
  • Trekking hours: 4 hours
  • Highlights: Conquer the rugged mountain trail stepping closer to the Himalayas
  • Accommodation: Teahouse
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

On one of the shorter days of our journey, we begin our ascending journey heading towards the hamlet of Deurali for the night. Exiting Dovan, the trail ascends through the quaint hamlet of Chuile, continuing unto Upper Dovan. Guided by the majestic Himalayas on the horizon, we continue our journey towards the Himalayan Hotel, beyond which lies the quaint settlement of Deurali.

Day 07: Trek from Deurali to Annapurna base camp (4130 m.) 4 hrs.

  • Altitude: 4130 m (Annapurna Base Camp)
  • Trekking hours: 4 hours
  • Highlights: Annapurna Base Camp and Machhapuchhre Base Camp
  • Accommodation: Teahouse
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Exiting Deurali, the trail ascends, taking us through the glacial moraines and onto Machhapuchhre Base Camp, located at 3700 meters. As the mountain is forbidden for climbing, this is the farthest you can go towards Machhapuchhre (6,997 m). Taking some time off at Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we continue our journey towards Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m. reaching the base camp, feel free to explore the surrounding areas taking in the stunning Himalayan beauty. The Himalayas in the Annapurna and Lamjung Himal ranges decorate the entire backdrop from the Base Camp.

Day 08: Trek back from Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2310 m.) 5-6 hrs.

  • Trekking hours: 5 to 6 hours
  • Highlights: Descend through quaint Gurung hamlet, enjoying the picturesque natural beauty as you go

At the beginning of our descending journey, we head over to the hamlet of Bamboo for the night. Exiting Annapurna Base Camp, the trail descends towards Deurali before dropping to Upper Dovan. Past Himalaya Hotel, the trail drops down to Dovan, continuing through the lush green forests to reach Bamboo. The trail also offers a sublime take on the Annapurna Conservation Area's biodiversity and the Annapurna Himalayas' panorama.

Day 09: Trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1780 m.) 5 hrs.

  • Altitude: 1780 m (Jhinu Danda)
  • Trekking hours: 5 to 6 hours
  • Highlights: Recuperate from your days of travel at the hot water springs
  • Accommodation: Teahouse
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

On our final day in the Annapurna Region, we deviate from our ascending trail and approach Jhinu Danda. Dropping down to the hamlet of Sinuwa, we continue our journey towards Chhomrong, trekking through the trekking farmlands and quaint hamlets. The journey's final stretch takes us east, heading toward Jhinu Danda. The quaint hamlet is well known for its hot springs, which is also a perfect way to end our Himalayan adventure.

Day 10: Trek from Jhinu Danda to Nayapul 6hrs. And drive to Pokhara. 1hrs.

  • Highlights: Accompany the stunning Modi Khola through lush green forests Accommodation: Teahouse

Exiting Jhinu Danda, the trail begins descending toward the hamlet of Nayapul. The trail accompanies the Modi Khola taking us through a pleasant hilly trail adorned with picturesque hilly landscapes. Past Jhinu Danda, the trail enters the lush green forests, dropping down to the hamlet of Lumle. Past the Gurung hamlet of Bhichok, we go to Birethanti, beyond which lies Nayapul. From Nayapul, we drive back to Pokhara, bringing our journey to a close.
